Jay Chen

 

Jay Chen graduated with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UC San Diego in 2006. He went on to New York University and received his doctorate in 2011. His PhD dissertation won the Janet Fabri Prize for most outstanding doctoral dissertation in Computer Science. After that, he was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at New York University - Abu Dhabi until 2020. His research is at the intersection of Networked Systems and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) applied to societal challenges. His work over the past decade has primarily focused on designing, building, and deploying networked systems in developing regions. His projects have been used in schools, hospitals, and other organizations in India, Africa, and South America where they have improved access to information and enabled new services. His current research interests include Information Communication Technology for Development (ICTD) and Computing for Social Good.
