Speech Group Receives Subcontract from UC Berkeley

September 1, 2003
ICSI's Speech Group receives subcontract for work on UC Berkeley's NSF project entitled "Information and Communication Technology for Billions" (ICT4B). The goal of this project is to provide access to computer technology in third world countries where it is not currently available, through the development of inexpensive hardware as well as speech recognition technology that can adapt to many different languages. Chuck Wooters of ICSI's Speech Group will lead research to develop a speech recognition toolkit that will be used on the computers being developed for this project.
