Abstract | Routing on the Internet combines data plane mechanismsfor forwarding traffic with control plane protocols for guaranteeingconnectivity and optimizing routes (e.g., shortest pathsand load distribution). We propose data-driven connectivity(DDC), a new routing approach that achieves thefundamental connectivity guarantees in the data plane ratherthan the control plane, while keeping the more complex requirementsof route optimization in the control plane. DDCenables faster recovery from failures and easier implementationof control plane optimization. |
