David Johnson received his bachelor's degree in computer science from Cambridge University and then worked as a research assistant in the Cambridge Engineering Department. After various industrial software engineering positions he joined ICSI, initially working on software for the T0 single chip vector microprocessor and then on tools for speech recognition and machine learning. He gradually transitioned into system administration around 1998, and he has managed ICSI's computing infrastructure for most of the time since then. His primary technical interests are storage infrastructure, HPC, and network security.
