Networking and Security Director Vern Paxson has received the Diane S. McEntyre Award for Excellence in Teaching from UC Berkeley's Computer Science Division. The purpose of the award, which is given annually to a member of the computer science faculty, is to recognize commitment to and respect for students.

Networking and Security Director Vern PaxsonICSI is pleased to announce that, as of January 1, 2013, Professor Vern Paxson is the director of Networking and Security research. Paxson was previously a senior researcher in Networking. He takes the role of director over from Professor Scott Shenker, who directs the recently established Research Initiatives area and serves as chief scientist. Networking and Security research scientists will conduct research on Internet security issues, including investigating the underground economy.

Interactive Graph of Relationships Between Root and Intermediate Certificate Authorities Is Released, Featured on SlashDot

An interactive graph created by DAAD postdoctoral fellow Bernhard Amann shows the relationships between root and intermediate certificate authorities (CAs) of institutions around the world. The graph was featured on SlashDot. Amann extracted from each certificate chain the path of intermediate CAs up to the root and then merged all paths into a graph. Amann works in the Networking and Security Group.

Networking Researcher Sylvia Ratnasamy Receives Yahoo! ACE Award

Sylvia Ratnasamy has received a Yahoo! Academic Career Enhancement (ACE) Award for the 2012-2013 academic year. Ratnasamy is a researcher in the Networking and Security Group and an assistant professor at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on the design and implementation of networked systems.
