TOURS
Two specific tours have been arranged for July 5th:
1 - San Gimignano and Siena
2 - Lucca and Pisa
And three tours have been arranged for July 9th:
1 - Florence
2 - Northern Tuscany (Alpi Apuane, Marble Caves and possibly the coast)
3 - Hiking in the Apennines
Some of the original options for tours were dropped due to insufficient interest or impracticality of arrangements. Each of the first four tours can accommodate ca. 50 individuals. The Apennines hike will have a limit of 15 persons. Individuals interested in this hike should bring a small backpack in order to carry food and drink. A solid pair of walking shoes or hiking boots is recommended. There will be a charge of ca. $25-30 for each tour.
Tours will leave directly after breakfast and arrive back at Il Ciocco shortly before dinner. A box lunch will be provided to all tour participants free of charge.
Please make sure to place your name and any guests on the sign-up sheets provided for the tours (even if you have already "signed up" electronically).
ACCOMMODATIONS
Every effort has been made to accommodate your lodging preference at Il Ciocco. If, in the event that the room assigned has proven unsatisfactory please speak to either myself or to Bruno Gianassi (who is in charge of managing the NATO ASI facilities at Il Ciocco).
Payment is due upon check out. Participants are responsible for the entire balance of the bill, except for any subsidy that may have been agreed upon in advance. The cost of the accommodation includes all meals, but does not cover alcoholic beverages beyond the complimentary wine provided with the meal. Nor does the accommodation cost cover extraneous expenses such as telephone bills, special facilities use, etc. All major credit cards, as well as travelers checks are accepted.
The accommodation cost is 124,000 Italian Lira per night per person when two individuals are occupying the same room and is 157,000 Lira per night when only a single individual is occupying the room.
The subsidy pertains solely to a specific individual and can not be used to defray the accommodation expenses of another individual or be applied in any other fashion than specified by the original agreement. For example, if you have been awarded a 50% accommodation subsidy this stipend applies to the base cost of 124,000 lira per night (i.e., 62,000 lira per night) regardless of whether you occupy a double or single room. Moreover your subsidy applies only to the duration of your stay. If you are resident at Il Ciocco for less than the full duration of the ASI then the amount of your subsidy will be reduced to cover just those days spent in residence. For example, if you remain at Il Ciocco for only 6 nights, then your total subsidy would be 372,000 Lira (assuming half subsidy), not 806,000 lira (13 x 62,000). Please contact me if you have any further questions about the nature of your subsidy. (Funds for subsidy have been fully committed and thus new applications for accommodation subsidy can not be considered at this time)
