This fall will be the 16th anniversary of ICSI's inaugural ceremonies, and also of the speech research work that was started here. The story of our group's birth and growth may not be well known by many of its current members. It would be lengthy (and boring) to attempt a retelling of anything like a complete history, and much of it is irrelevant to current and future progress. Consequently, this talk will focus on a small number of events that, in my own time-warped view, seem to tell a good story (complete with a short musical interlude). There may even be a moral or two to the story - or at the very least, an opportunity for the speaker to briefly pontificate on things to think about for the future.
