2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Multimedia, internet and network technology offer new possibilities for information systems. In particular, new regional information systems were developed and offer information in a new style. The presentation describes the design and implementation of regional information systems and how 3D user interfaces help the users to navigate in the information space. The implemented three-dimensional user interface brings better orientation because the information in the model refers to its place in real world. The information system includes 3D models of streets, street signs, buildings, houses, hotels, public transportation systems and parking areas and further information of the facilities. In such systems we are able to do a lot of things from town planning up to virtual sightseeing. The second part of the presentation will show some technical details like VR, VRML, VRML & JAVA and client server solutions in virtual worlds.

This talk will be held in the Main Lecture Hall at ICSI,
1947 Center Street, Sixth Floor, Berkeley, CA 94704-1198
(on Center between Milvia and Martin Luther King Jr. Way).
