FrameNet Workshop

FrameNet logoMonday, September 9 - Friday, September 13, 2013
ICSI Lecture Hall

The FrameNet Project is holding a workshop for developers of NLP applications, researchers in linguistic semantics, and lexicographers. Sponsored in part by the National Science Foundation, the workshop includes lectures and demonstrations on Frame Semantics and FrameNet, as well as the ICSI metaphor project, MetaNet. You will have the opportunity for hands-on practice to develop your NLP application using FrameNet data with a new FrameNet library for NLTK, or to develop frames and annotate data using FrameNet methodology and practices.

The Association for Computational Linguistics has endorsed the workshop.

What: Lectures on Frame Semantics, the benefits of using FrameNet data for NLP applications; presentations about research that uses FrameNet; hands-on practice building NLP applications with FrameNet data, using the new FrameNet library for NLTK; and demos of the MetaNet system, including the repository of linguistic metaphors and automatic metaphor extraction

Why: Automatic text analysis requires semantically rich information about both typical and rare patterns, as well as relational meaning in language.
