Abstract

SpatDIF, the Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format,is an ongoing collaborative effort offering a semanticand syntactic specification for storing and transmittingspatial audio scene descriptions. The SpatDIF coreis a lightweight minimal solution providing the most essentialset of descriptors for spatial sound scenes. Additionaldescriptors are introduced as extensions, expandingthe namespace and scope with respect to authoring, scenedescription, rendering and reproduction of spatial audio. Ageneral overview of the specification is provided, and twouse cases are discussed, exemplifying SpatDIF’s potentialfor file-based pieces as well as real-time streaming of spatialaudio information.
