Abstract | This paper outlines a research agenda to understand how the expanding use of smart home devices affects the privacy of individuals who did not choose to deploy them, and may not even be aware of them. We describe current and planned studies with domestic workers and people who employ domestic workers, other populations likely to be affected by the increasing use of smart home devices, and product teams who design such devices. Findings will support guidelines, and recommendations for developers of smart-home devices and for policymakers, as well as public-education materials. |
