Xingchen Liu is a Research Scientist at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI). His research interests lie in computational aspects of mechanical design and manufacturing, including computer-aided design, multiscale structure modeling, manufacturing path planning, and design optimization. He developed the sample-based material structure modeling approach to represent and design multiscale structures with random heterogeneous materials. He also designed and implemented the first application programming interface representing multiscale structures of an arbitrary number of scales through composition. Prior to ICSI, he completed his Ph.D. study in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he also received M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Sciences. He received his B.A. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Tianjin University.
